My favorite left turn

September 2nd, 2007 by andrew stein

When driving down to Los Angeles from the Bay Area, I get the opportunity to drive across the 152 (and yes, all freeway names should be prefaced by the article “the”). This freeway, which connects the 101 to the 5 contains a 12 mile stretch with only one lane, and at the end of these 12 miles, cars need to alternate with others coming in the other direction wanting to make a left turn onto the 156. I’m no expert on this, but a traffic light would be nice!

Here is a map of this infamous left turn:

To make the situation even better, trucks are also included in those that want to make this left turn. Taken with my cell phone, these low quality images might give you a feel for the delays produced by this intersection.

To sum up, those 12 miles took me somewhere between 1.5 and 2 hours to transverse, and other than that, my trip to SoCal was smooth sailing. So if anyone out there is listening, and has some say to put in a traffic light–or even better, an overpass of sorts–I would really appreciate it!

P.S. This isn’t the first time the 152 has treated me so well.
